Our Story
In 2017 we bought 40 acres in Torrance County NM with the plan that one day in future we would retire there and enjoy our golden years. The place was unimproved prairie land with 2 unlivable mobile homes on it sold to us as having "no value". It didn't matter, we were happy to be landowners and eventually ranchers. This was our plan for the future and we thought we had at least a decade to get there.
The covid pandemic of 2020 forced my studio hair salon out of business and we were forced to sell our city home and move to the country and make the best of it. When we first began our renovations we called the mobile the "mouse house" and I literally slept in a tent inside the house because I was so afraid I would wake up with some sort of vermin sharing my bed with me! Slowly but surely we were able to reclaim the house and have over the years repurposed many items into the house interior and created some of our own useful interior components and fixtures like my 7ft concrete island counter top, which I love! Other things are still unfinished, edges, trims, a few baseboards because honestly, I'd rather be riding horses!
Over the years we've managed to build quite the little homestead with farm animals, horses, a 40x16 in the ground greenhouse and a herd of dogs to keep it all safe from the coyotes. It's not fancy, it's super practical and sometimes it's all just a little bit too much for a couple of 60 year olds but we're really doing quite well in our happy little mess.
Life is not always about money, expensive cars, fancy clothes and big houses. Sometimes it doesn't matter what terrible things are going on in the world. There is very little I can do about most of it. We like the peace and serenity of a cup of coffee, a rooster crowing, a dog who loves you and a horse to ride. We do watch the grass grow, wonder at the beauty of the flowers and enjoy the fresh taste of a real tomato. Every morning brings a new sunrise and every evening a beautiful sunset and always in between is God's beautiful pretty skies.
